"Hunger Knows No Season"
The HOPE Center houses the Food for the Hungry (FFTH) Food Pantry. It is an outreach mission of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church that serves our brothers and sisters who live in Salem, NH. From it's inception in the late 70's by Oliver Eacker and then later with Gretarose Barnes, Cliff Cleary, and Kay Panciocco, the FFTH Food Pantry has sought to provide healthy foods in a safe compassionate environment for those who are hungry and are in need. In Gretasrose's words,
"No one should be ashamed to ask for food."
Our volunteers cheerfully give out smiles, works of encouragement, recipe suggestions and referrals to other services such as SNAP and fuel assistance to support those who enter our doors.
The majority of the food is purchased through the NH Food Bank in Manchester using charitable donated monies, volunteers and their vehicles. Our volunteers coordinate with the Mail Carriers for the May Post Office Food Drive, and the Boy Scouts for the November Food Drive. We are also blessed to receive Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys through the Turkey Golf Day at the Campbell's Scottish Highland Golf Course.
